I was reading some coin history and noticed the first mint director of the united states, David Rittenhouse, was born in Germantown, PA. I've done a lot of genealogy, but mostly only with direct descendants. Now, my family is almost exclusively found in PA and I had a Rittenhouse line in the same time frame, so I was thinking, "Hey, I bet I'm related to this guy"

sure enough, took me all of 5 mins, and I found our common ancestor.

David's grandfather, is my 9th great-grandfather, which make David my 2nd cousin 8x removed. :)

Pretty cool history! I would be really happy to know that I had a relative involved in the United States Mint. Especially the first Mint Director!

I doubt I can get any discounts lol. Oddly enough the Rittenhouse line is the same one that goes back to the Holy Roman Emperors of Germany (House of Habsburg) Maxamillion I was my 16th Great-Grandfather.

I think that David's family was probably still of pretty upper class lineage and pretty well politically connected.
