Hi all,
Do you have any info concerning napoleon bonaparte commemorative gold coin of Elba island? Napoleon was imprisoned on the island of Elba for like 9 month in 1814. and became the governor there..then escaped and got back to France. On the obverse there's the date : 1814-1815.

During his first exile on Elba Napoleon used the motto "Napoleon ubicumque felix" (Napoleon is happy everywhere). I will try to find more information about this, but it's my b-day, so I might take a bit.

Ok, I found some conflicting information.

First is an Italian ebay post, asking about a similar medal (silver):

http://forums.ebay.it/thread.jspa?t...107092863451

My Italian is limited to Babelfish translation, but the following reply deals with the item in question:
Quote:

Rough translation - The "currency" of Napoleone is in truth medallion in silver 800 - a small token that it came inside of the boxes of detersivo(detergent?) in the 70s. (of this are sure why of it I have one that corresponds perfectly to the made description).

Second reference to the item is this pendant: http://www.arsantik.com/arsantik.dl...7&FR=4&SCH=1

And on the following thread, one of the posters calls it a "tourist bauble". Is yours stamped on the edge or is there any kind of writing under the eagle/bust? :

http://www.lamoneta.it/index.php?ac...&f=15&t=4943

I hope someone speaks Italian and can make sense of the information I found.

Cheers!

Roman.

It seems there is a gold medal
I found one for sale with the exact description for 150 E

nr 81 http://www.kollectoo.com/listeannon...e=0&debut=80

But reading the italian and the french sites there are silver
medals and at a given time probably cheap duplicates given away
with soap and at gas stations

The medal is not in the list of authentic napoleon medals so
the gold medal may be a modern restrike by some mint

The french site lists somebody wants to sell for 150 E so I figure this is a fair valuation

Thank you roman ..And Happy Birthday ! :)

The medal is reeded and has 2 incuses below the eagles's tail...in one of the two incuses there's "750" if I remember correctly because I don't have the medal with me right now.
Just one beautifull detailed medal I have to say. But I wounder why couldn't I find anything on it...neither in books or the net...but if it's difficult to find info on...doesn't that mean it's rare?...I'm just woundering.

From that french site :
"contient une pièce en or, double face, (italienne)inscrit : napoleone sovrano dell'elba (cote pile) et : ubicumque felix (cote face) date de 1814-1815, très belle medaille pour collectionneur, vendu 150 euro"

Ageka...yes it's prety much the same...and it was sold....."Vendu"means sold.

Thank you Ageka !
