POST A PICTUREI hope that this thread will get forum members to search their collections for those UNKNOWN coins. Post your Pictures Here and Find out what they are! I've been going thru my collection and I have a couple coins that I'm having troubles getting details so I'll post them and see if anyone can help. Coin number one: I have no idea what it is. It's about the size of a USA dime. Coin number two: Any details at all would be a help. Coin or token? Edited by toast 10/03/2006 04:15 am

I just need a bit of help working out how to do dates on Chinese coins. Coin 7: I can see it has Year 49 but this coin was made between 1960 and 1980. Yuan, Republic of China. or is it 94? Coin 8: is 10 Yuan from Republic of China, Y553 made between 1981 to 1994... is that read 80 for 1980?

7) Nationalist Chinese dating is based on the establishment of the 1911 republic so year 49 equals 1960.
8) Year 80 = 1991.

Here are Three more very old and worn coins The first might be an Indian Princely state, but I was unable to match the building design to any coin in my very old Krause. It's just smaller in size to a quarter. The second coin is dated 176? Looks like 1767 to me and maybe a German State coin. The writing says...Schilling Coubant Mechlenb. Schwerin Munz?. The other side is worse for wear. About the size of a dime. And finally number three. Looks to me like Great Britian 1817. But I don't have a reference guide for these older coins. During this time the Britsh Monarch was on many nations coins. The reverse may give a clue, but it's worn. What denomination is this coin? Is it silver? About the size of a quarter.

OK, must be my turn, now. Top one is Afghanistan, 50 pul or 1/2 afghani, SH 1331 (1951), KM# 942.1. Middle one is the German state of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, 1 schilling 1767 (best guess at the date; they weren't struck in 1761). The other side should be a crowned "F" monogram. The bottom one is, indeed, a British shilling. (EDited fOr TYpos )

Excellent! That is my 1st coin from Afghanistan. 1951, WOW has it had a hard life. I thought it was from the 1800's LOL. I bought that at a coin shop in Melbourne for $3. It was in a 2x2 and all that was written on it was "India". The second coin is also my first coin from the German State of Meckleburg-Schwerin. The Great Britian shilling in those days were .925 Silver content. Not that it matters to me.LOL Thanks again

OK, since Toast opened this thread up for everyone, now its time for an unknown from me. I don't have that many coins left in the "mystery book", but this one's had me stumped since I found it in a bulk lot of coins I bought at auction in 1998. I'm thinking Central Asia judging by the style of writing and layout of the coin, somewhere in the north-to-south line from northwestern Indian States, through Afghanistan and up to Bukhara and Russian Turkestan, where Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are today. I haven't had any luck finding the characteristic "morse code" border this coin has on both sides: dot-dot, dot-dot, dot-dot. It's about quarter-rupee sized, and fairly thick. As to year, I think it says "1336" on one side and "36" on the other - but that only helps if you know which country it's from, as two different calendars have been used in this general area (solar years and lunar years).

I too am puzzled with this coin: The dealer that I got it from guessed that it's from Bukhara but I don't know what era it is from, as well as where it is from.
