I am looking to buy a collection from a person I know and have a quick question... They have a replica of a 1793 8 Reales. It was made in 1997 by the American Historical Society. It says it is an exact copy but does not say anything about composition of the replica.

So, being a exact copy, is it silver? And, any value to these?

If silver then just silver value I take it but if not silver worth just a few dollars?

If it's the one for 119; I'd leave it alone. From Answers.com: "Your coins, unless you ordered legal tender ( which are worth face value) are worth the scrap value of the metal in the coins. Their gold proofs and commemorative coins are worthless in that they are not solid gold or silver but only plated token slugs. If the word replica ever pops up in the advertisement that means counterfeit and worthless. One might also take note that The American Historic Society is just a name that a marketing group concocted to sound "credible" and is not actually affiliated with any nationally recognised foundation. Buyer Beware!"

As I said, it is part of a collection I am buying. I did find a few on ebay going for a few dollars so I will probably put a $1 mark on it.

So far the collection includes 3 Morgans, 10 Peace, 1898 Half w/ all "LIBERTY", $6.70 of 90% silver, 1866 3 cent, 1863 Indian cent w/ "LIBERTY", 2 1857 Flying Eagle cents, plus 700 clad Kennedy halves.

Kind of an odd assortment of coins. Hopefully you didn't pay much.
Rest in Peace

Wonder what is "very much"? If he means 40% clad, there's over $4000 there.

Actually, I got a very good deal on them. I paid $800 total. Rough estimate value is $1100 to $1200. Have not looked at the coins for varieties yet.
Rest in Peace

Only found 4 40% Kennedys, the rest are mostly early to mid 1970's.
