I have been searching all over the web for some kind of information regarding the Great Britain large cents. I live in the US but at coin shows people always have foreign coin buckets where coins are like 4 for a dollar or something. They have a lot of large cents but was wondering some information on them. I like trying to complete sets even though for the most part I probably wont complete them, it gives me a goal. I'm wondering the years that the coins were made. They are coins that have like the king on the front and what looks like king triton from the little mermaid on the back.
I cant find any information on the web so maybe I am calling them the wrong name or something. Even if trying to get a big group of these coins together is very hard I might buy them because large cents are really cool to me. Any info on them is greatly appreciated

If you have one, a picture would really help.

British copper coins of this type are called pennys, not cents. The word "Penny" on the back is a bit of a giveaway. Cent's would be very innappropriate as there was 240 of these to the pound - not 100.

Try your searches with "penny" and see what turns up.

maybe even a link with a picture of the different varieties and the dates they were made
it would be easier for me to go variety by variety

one more thing as well
would 3 or 4 for a United states dollar be a good deal?
I am interested in the coin not really the value of the collection afterward but I don't want to buy common coins at high prices
like I said earlier I love the way the coins look and they are a lot cheaper then US Large Cents

Yeah, 4 for a dollar is good. You can get all the way back to 189X for this price.

There's an l missing off the end of the link above.

Try this one:http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/coins.html

It's an excellent site for info on nearly all coins of Great Britain.

These are just for pennies:

http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/penny.html
http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/pics/pen1.html

I use this site every day to look up values, varieties plus a heap of other info. About the only info I can't find on it is mintage stats.

The reverse is Britannia with a shield and trident. Have fun!

4 for $1 is very good value.

Do an ebay search for 'penny folder' and see what you come up with. There will be some US ones in amongst it, but there will also be some Great Britain ones.

very cool links, there is another coin show around the block from me this weekend where I plan to go and make my first purchases of these foreign coins
I am very excited to start on what is sure to be a very cool little stash that hopefully can turn into a halfway decent collection of these pennies
I will post pictures up after I make some purchases
are half pennies and large pennies from australia worth a 4 for a dollar price as well
I noticed some of them mixed in that looked really cool to me and I have one already

4 for $1 is also a good price for Aussie Ha'pennies and Pennies. Good hunting!
