Just to be sure I doublechecked and as it turns out it's actually an error---- photographed through grease. Very common though, see them on ebay all the time.

reminds me of the vaseline I'd spread on my camera filters to soften up the shots of some of those less than .... uhm ... less than minstate brides when I shot weddings :D
