I bought some circulated LMC rolls from an auction recently. I am not familiar with different errors but I got 2 rolls that were marked differently. One roll is 1972 DBLG. The second is marked 1972 Varistian MNV/DBL. Any ideas on these?

Also if anyone has a picture of a 70s small date vs a normal one I would be interested in seeing the difference.

Thanks

The markings on the 1972 cents are the collector's own code for what they see. These are not numismatic abbreviations.

Thanks for the response! I have 6 rolls of 70s to go through and check for small dates. I will also crack open those marked 1972 rolls to see what I find.

Wow, good luck on the small date search. I STRUGGLE searching any of the common years for small dates. It takes me a long time with lots of comparisons of other coins and the example photos on the internet. I hope it will get better with better magnification. Right now 5x isn't cutting it.

Might mean nothing but I suspect it also could be a tactic to make people think there could be some Double Dies in there. DBL sounds like an abbreviation for Double. DBLG could be Double in Good. Similar with the Varistian thing. Almost sounds like Variety of the 72 Double Die. Or as already noted, means nothing except to the guy that put them there.

I wouldn't mix them together until I was sure the secret code didn't mean something special.

Thanks upstate, I did enjoy that read! I have a 16x loupe that I am going to get real familiar with over the next couple nights. The guy who collected them may have already pulled them out but the hunt will still be fun.

I defiantly will not mix up those other rolls. I will just re-wrap them and re-label them and see if l can decipher the code.

Don't touch it. Keep all the rolls. I know what the code is. I'll need all the rolls to find the clue to where the missing IV is;
