I found this today poking around a playground basketball
court with my metal detector. At first I was just going to toss it.
It was just slightly dirty and thought it was just a token or something. Seemed very light also. It is holed so most likely was on a chain and it fell off. Was only a few inches down in the soil. Anyway, I just ran it under some tap water and rinsed it. It weighs 4.1 grams so that does not even match the weight shown on the reverse of the coin. 2.6 c.m. in dia. Has a reeded edge and the brownish areas on the coin are actually closer to black in color with coin in hand. Found one similar at world coin gallery but that one had a different weight listed on the reverse than mine. Seemed odd. Any ideas ? Is it just a holed (ruined:) actual coin or just a replica etc. ?
Thanks

Probably a jewelry piece.
the 1901 indo china 20 cent is supposed to be .835 silver not .680 that purity didn't get used until 1921.

Hi

Thanks for the info. Interesting though that I found
this below. Also shows other year coins with the same weight.

I have a underweight counterfeit 1909 with a similarly-sized hole in about the same location. I suspect that yours is a counterfeit, too.

Thanks. I will have to go with that opinion then also.
I didn't think that tiny hole in it would be enough to
make up the weight difference anyway. Seems to have some silver in it but off to the $1.00 bin :)
Was fun to find though. Just like anything else with a detector.
