Greetings, I was recently going through some old world coins that I've accumulated and discovered a very nice British West Africa two shillings coin. The coin is in uncirculated condition (IMO) and upon looking it up in the World Coin Book I found an entry that says this coin with a "grained edge" is "VERY RARE". I've enclosed pictures of the obverse and reverse of the coin. I will try to post better pics of the obverse and reverse in the next few days. My question is whether or not the edge picture as shown reflects a "grained edge". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the normal security edge.

Thanks DCH. Would you happen to have a picture or know where one is of a "grained edge" just to comlpete my education? Greatly appreciate your reply.

I believe grained edge is the same as reeded.

I am lucky enough to have amassed a type collection of 44 different silver florins ranging VF to AU, from all parts of the British Empire. There are only two that I don't have, but they are relatively common. It has taken me about four years to get thus far. The Melbourne Centenary Florin is the scarcest and most valuable, mine is EF. The Godless florin of 1849 of Great Britain is the coin that started the series. This coin also grades EF.

In addition to this, I have about double that number in copper nickel florins or 10 pence or Twenty Cent Pieces. Australia is the most prolific producer of florin / 20 cent types. Most of these are in Uncirculated. The 20 cent from Kiribati was the hardest to locate so far, of the copper nickel series.
