Are these two different coins? If they are I'm positive they are imitations. Who would have two 168 year old coins with the same detail?

Look fake to me... no particular reason off the top of my head, they just don't look... "right" and also I think this is a case of too good to be true.

I see they are 2 coins. Weight is within tolerance. Can you you get a diameter measurement (38.1 mm). Did you try a ring test? Spin another dollar coin that you know is real on it's edge as it stops you will hear a specific tone that silver makes, then spin you ebay purchase. Do they sound the same? Other's with more experience will chime in. Quote: Who would have two 168 year old coins with the same detail? I do.

I would definitely avoid buying non slabbed numismatic coins UNLESS you know how to detect fakes from the real ones. Plenty of fakes on ebay, hope they turn out to be real

If you do return them as counterfeit. ebay holds the seller responsible regardless of the no return policy. Make sure to do all communications through ebay and follow instructions they give you.

And send w/delivery confirmation. I don't know if you're even supposed to return counterfeits, isn't it illegal to ship them?

No it is not illegal to ship them.It is even legal to collect them...you just can't pass them off as real.

Why return them, if they are fake take them to the police and file a report. If you return them they can just be resold. At this point it is mail fraud etc. on the sellers part. He should be glad to refund your money if you can prove that they are fake.

I'm gonna go with fake as well.
Maineman: I do believe it is illegal to collect them unless they are stamped with "copy" or are a certain % more or less than the size of the real coin.

Your images are not showing up. If the seller sold you these knowing they are in fact, counterfeit, he can be charged with very serious crimes. Now, proving that is the problem.

Both fake. A tip off might be $1,000 coins selling for $300. Return them and let ebay know this seller is passing counterfeits.
