My father and I have been trying to figure out what this coin is.
unfortunately I don't have a picture of it.

It is the size of quarter, one side has a maple leaf and 2001 on it, (the same maple leaf as the 2004 commemorative quarter with the colored poppy on it).

The other side has the mint logo tiled across the entire surface of the coin.

it doesn't actually say 25 cents on it, or indicate a value, which I assume to mean that it isn't actually money.

a test token maybe? what do yous think. ill take pictures as soon as I can.

In 1999 and 2000 coins as you have described were issued with the sets of quarters from the mint. These are tokens and not coins. Check ebay in the Canadian coins and search for tokens to see if you can find a match. What you have described is not a test token. The Millennium stamp set also came with a token that I believe had a bird on it.
