Hi, I have a Lincoln Memorial cent which I'm not sure if there's doubling happening on the ear or not. I'm looking at the lowest portion of the earlobe. I'm not sure if it is actual doubling, or maybe a small chip missing out of the earlobe to make it look doubled? Yea or nea, I'm looking for opinions either way so I know what I have. Please excuse the photo quality. It's a cheap point n' shoot though a loupe. Thanks.

That looks like a 1997,but it also looks like it may have some damage..the glare from the lights doesn't help much. Here is a close up of my 1997 double ear for comparison

What year is it? Can you show the rest of the coin?

Sorry, forgot to mention that it's a 1984. Unfortunately my camera is no longer turning on (with new batteries) and am having troubles with any other pics. I didn't notice anything else that points at doubling except for what appears to be the extra layer or two at the earlobe.
Coop, what's the upper arrow in that image you posted supposed to be detailing? I'm not sure what to look for at the top of the ear.

The area above the ear also has doubling. The 1984 doubled ear looks like this: Even far away this one is obvious:

Mine is no where as obvious as the examples above and others I've seen on the internet. If mine is even doubled (and not just a chip) I agree that it's probably Machine Doubling. I'm still working on learning exactly what to look for any how/if it varies between the '84 and the '97. This helps. Thanks.

I know this is not extreme but there does some to be some slight doubling on the bottom area of the lobe...or is this just part of the ear design...? It is a 1997.

canuckguy, I see that on alot of 97's, I think it's part of the design. Indian1, the 2006 is different in that it almost appears as a die chip or gas bubble below the ear(just found one the other day), but it really doesn't look like a doubled ear.

Maineman are you thinking the effect is caused by it being an EDS coin?

Amida, yes I do. I've seen enough of them not to get excited any more. They had me looking hard for a while, especially when viewed in the right light.

canuckguy, to tell the truth I am just as happy with the new stuff when it comes to finding varieties...they haven't been looked at nearly as much. What I don't like is zinc rot on a nice doubled die

Maineman750, I agree now! I'm now looking at every date up to current year. I was just sending them all back out. If it was not copper it went. Now it means my going over and scrutinizing has just gone up 100 fold lol!
