Below please find a token/medal that I recently acquired.

Unknown-Specimen---H.-Bell,-Washington-Iowa

H. BELL /
M'F'G'R /
CARRIAGES /
BUGGIES & HARNESS /
WASHINGTON, /
IOWA.

32mm, Silvered

I cannot find anything on this specimen. The reverse looks clearly struck. Whether the obverse was struck is questionable. It may have been struck, but from a rudely fashioned die.

Any information would be most appreciated.

Thanks, kindly

Cheetah

Got a bit of an answer... getting there slowly!

Below is the 1900 Census for Washington County, Washington City, Iowa.

Hervey Bell and family is listed, line 21. His occupation is indicates he is a 'Carriage Manufacturer'. It appears his son Frank was also in the family business. Frank's occupation is listed as a Carriage Framer (remember the old script used backwards 'F's)

So the 'H' in "H. Bell" most probably indicates "Hervey Bell."
