Well I picked up a 1866 IHC from the bay for about $20.
She's tucked safely in a NGC slab but she's coming out and going into a cheap $3 folder. Talk about a downgrade in living quarters. I actually feel kind of bad. My IHC collection is getting pretty decent (10 left) and I really need to get a Dansco or something.
So how do I crack these again?

It's actually a pretty nice coin with full rims and beading and only a little scratch on the reverse. Perfect for a folder!

do it carefully. I use a pair of wire cutters and steer clear of the coin. the container will sometimes snap and send shards of plastic all over the place. a pair of bolt-cutters would be better. once you have a section removed, it's pretty easy to cut around the coin and extract it.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES---or at least some sunglasses.

I prefer a dremel to carefully cut the edge off, then it's pretty easy to open.

When (if) I crack them out, I save the printed part out of the slab for future reference.

Seriously awesome 7070 Bryan but you don't have any $20 coins in there, my old slab landed in the garbage

Some scratches on the reverse, really not that bad at all.
Like I said ,great for a folder:> Ha.
I am really happy with the coin, hard to find a 1866 that doesn't break the bank
or isn't completely destroyed.
