I actually think I did OK with this one, but let me know what you think? Feel free to be brutally honest.

Anyway I just love this "50 CENTS" type for some reason, thus I was drawn to the nice strike and full reverse rims.

Thanks for the opinions.

I think you got the coin at an excellent price, grade wise I'd say it's VF-35.

Good price, but not great by my standards (I probably have different standards for buying than most)

Factor demand, ShadowCreator - yeah, he's probably only $40-ish under market value but he just snagged a nice coin, below market, from under the noses of the most fanatical collectors of them all. Take a look at the other examples of 1837's which brought the same money on ebay - problem children, all of them.

Check this one out, from one of our...ahem...favorite sellers:

Thanks everyone. Interestingly, the coin sold for about $155 previously, but the buyer returned it, due to it not meeting his AUish standards. I exchanged messages with the seller regarding condition and return privileges to reach my comfort zone, then bid an amount I would be happy to win at, but thought I'd fall $30-40 short. I think the Monday afternoon auction end time helped. Anyway, another 7070 hole filled. And I'm learning ShadowCreator's standards are different than mine and way outside of my budget!

I think you got a really good deal on that coin. I have an 1837 in my 7070 that I'd grade at XF-40 and paid around $150 for it a couple of years ago - and that was a good deal at the time.

Similarly to you, there was something about that "50 Cents" that I wanted in my set as well. Took quite a bit of looking to find a nice one - lots of weak strikes and problem coins.

Nice job on this one!!

Yeah Dave, bust and reeded edge material is real hard to win cheap. He did very well for a nice collector coin.

Nice coin, excellent price, congrats! The seller commented about the "wipe" on Liberty's cheek; to me that just looks like evidence of circulation. Overall color and appearance seem pretty original which is a big plus for any bust half.
