Is this a fake?

1935-George-V-Dollar
1935-George-V-Dollar

the obverse is so... detailed.
Something like: Too nice to be real?

I checked this in my Charlton's Catalogue, which shows the 1935 Silver Jubilee issue having this special portrait.

It doesn't look like a fake to me - just a normal $ that has been circulated and possibly cleaned at some point.

Well I'm not very good at determining fakes to begin with.
What threw me off here is that the coin looks too.... I can't put the right word here.

It looks unlike any other 1935 silver dollar I've seen before.
In a way it looks more like one of those "antiqued" RCM 1908-1998 commemorative than it does an actual aged coin.

It was just gut instinct. I have nothing else to go by.

Maybe not fake, but definitely not mint-state.

It looks like a scan that was converted to black and white and then had the contrast fiddled with to hide the major flaws or possible cleaning swirls.

There is still lustre visible around the lettering but the coins main fields have been washed out by the adjustments. I can't see any real wear on the high points but I do see rim damage/flaws at 10 and 3 oclock on the obverse and again at 2 and 8 oclock on the reverse.

Theory- this coin was mounted in a pendant and dipped or polished at some point.

It's such a bad picture it's hard to tell. But I do think it's a shot of a real coin.
