Dad just gave me this 1901 Morgan, does it have any obvious VAM value, or is it too worn to consider? At least the date is clear. Thanks.

The obvious value is (or should be)inherent in your source of acquisition.... the term 'melt' should not even be considered..... as a VAM, its condition negates any premium over 'melt'.

zeewool said it the best. Keep that puppy and do not try to VAM it, as it is likely futile.

Basically my Dad told me to sell. I don't do silver (yet). I collect Canadian large cents only, so he knows that I would prefer to change this silver into copper so to speak. My real question is: Does this coin have any obvious VAM atributes? I seems that there are dozens of possibilities for each silver dollar, I don't want to put a potentially valuable coin into the dealers melt bucket. Sorry if I wasn't clear at first.

The date seems quite low, only VAM 24 is listed and a VAM that
has NO Value over the coin itself...

It's a 2-olive reverse, and likely not accurately attributable past that due to wear. Of the little information available,I like 18 as a candidate due to mint mark location or 47 because of what seems a slant in the date.

What the gentlemen said is true. Your Dad gave this to you knowing you would rather invest it in your present collection of copper. Don't worry, we and the VAM's will be here when your ready...kenny

You will be getting into silver soon enough... its practically inevitable.

I dare you to try not to!
