Looking for a grading opinion, any possible issues....Is this cleaned? Whole coin has a gold tinted toning that doesn't show up well in the pic. Thanks

I'll take a flyer and say cleaned. Don't take my word for it though. Nice either way.

Agree on VF-30 detail the fine parallel lines on both obverse and reverse indicate this coin has been cleaned

Thanks for identifying the cleaning markers on this one, fenton. That's what I was picking up on.

Again, still very nice.

I wonder what percentage of Seated Liberty coins (say F or above) HAVEN'T been cleaned at one time or another? Seems like 10-20% or so.

I'm not an expert, but your guess on the percentage sounds about right... There are a lot of cleaned seateds' out there... Also, to the Community, you have some really beautiful pieces with some great eye appeal

"Whizzed" means the coin was polished using a motorized wire brush (like on a Dremel tool) to simulate luster. I'm not sure this coin was treated that badly but the parallel hairline scratches are usually a dead giveaway that the coin was rubbed with something like a jeweler's cloth to shine it up. I'd grade it EF-40 or even EF-45 for details but the hairlines will probably drop the value into the VF range.

Nothing wrong with owning a coin like this, just be careful that the price you pay reflects the fact that the value is lower due to the mishandling.

Whizzed was when the coin has been buffed with a wire brush to create the appearance of mint luster.
Rest in Peace

This is way better than VF-30 in my opinion but has been harshly cleaned, the coin has very little wear (the 'wear' on the legs' is a strike issue)
