I have heard that if there are 5 or more of the same digit in a particular bill, this is rare and can be worth something other than face value. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks.

Yes and no. In my opinion 5 isn't enough to be collectible. 6 of the same digit (nothing else fancy like a radar or repeater) makes a great liars poker note and can be sold as such. Some people save 6 of a kind just because. 7 of the same is a near solid and collectible. 8 the same is a solid and worth a nice premium even if moderately worn.

*edit* for spelling

^I agree. Unless you are talking about the first 5 digits and they are 0. Then you have a nice low serial. And would be very collectable.

Thank you all. Yes, yesterday he got a single with 6 sevens. The first 4 numbers and the last 3 were 747! It actually looked pretty neat. Thank you all. I didn't see the responses since I guess I didn't subscribe to my own post!

what does radar mean? also, does a repeater have to be all in a row? I didn't even think our currency today is worth anything much! Thanks again

A radar is a palindrome note where the serial number reads the same forwards and backwards. A repeater is a serial number were a sequence of numbers repeats itself.

Here's an example of a radar/repeater:

I have pulled from circulation a series 1995 $1 FRN with the serial number B00000729L and a series 2004 $20 FRN - serial number EE00000842D ...
When I read this thread last night, it had taken me over two hours to locate these notes as I had placed them in my "Ephemera" collection for my granddaughter...

That's neat! I have 10 of the $2 bills and they start with 000 from when they were reissued in 1976 but that's about it for that. My son has found a few and that's what prompted my question.
