Goldens have a large following and there are rescues devoted to just that breed. Just Google "golden retriever rescue" and your state, and you'll have places to look. The breed itself has the traits - although getting from a reputable breeder may be the only way to (hopefully) guarantee a purebred.. non-purebreds may not have all the traits. The rescues may be able to verify if a particular dog is, depending on where they are from. Either way you go, though, a Golden is an absolute joy.
