I wish I had the money to do a complete commemorative type set.. I had a lot of fun picking these four out.

The Columbus one made sense to me since it was the first commemorative half. I have it graded as MS62:

Finally-Finished-My-7070-Commemorative-Section

The Lincoln was just a cool coin. Some people dont like the design, but I personally love it. I have this as a MS64:
Finally-Finished-My-7070-Commemorative-Section
Finally-Finished-My-7070-Commemorative-Section

The Roanoke half was a must for me because it's the coin for my home state. This was an NGC MS64 crackout:

Finally-Finished-My-7070-Commemorative-Section

And finally, the Oregon Trail.. Probably my favorite design of all of them. This one was also an NGC MS64 crackout:

Gorgeous... Accurate grading IMO, and nice toning on the Lincoln

Very nice! Halves are my second favorite but I don't know much about the commemorative ones. So, forgive my ignorance.

How does the commemorative section work? Pick 4 any 4? How many are there to pick from? What do folk normally go for? etc etc

Yep - there are four slots for classic commemoratives, and one slot for a modern commemorative. I think there are around 50 different classic coins to pick from.

From what I've seen, a lot of people go for the Columbian Expo Half (which I have first), the Pilgrim commemorative, and the Oregon Half. I don't know that I'd say there is a fourth one that is as common as the other three.. at least not that I've noticed. A lot of people like the Texas Half, the Stone Mountain, the Booker T Washington, Washington Carver Half...

This section was a lot of fun for me... Lots of cool, unique coins to learn about.

Excellent coins and a lovely selection indeed. Truly a nice set of classic coins from one of my favorite sets!

There are 48 total classic US silver commemorative half dollar types ... whose numbers expand to 142 total coins if you consider all date/mm and recognized marketing ploy issues (star coins and 2x2 issues).

A complete US classic silver commemorative type set will total 50 coins ... with the addition of the 1893 Isabella Quarter and the 1900 Lafayette Dollar.

Great job maprince230 .... I enjoy the photos of your choices.

Oh yeah! Love those - good choices - like that you have an explanation for each.

Really nice early commemoratives! That oregon trail one is really growing on me, but I will need to buy my hometown one first, the Columbia SC Sesequicentennial.

Very nice photos, I particularly like the 1893 Columbian Expostion half; I had one when I was a kid, spent it on the subway! Thanks for posting all these...

I really enjoy the older commemoratives, nice set you have. Coinut, if you are looking for a South Carolina I have two I am looking to part with Both PCGS MS 64, P and S in the old green holder. I have too little posts to sell on this forum and don't seem to have PM capability either. I'm not sure how we can get together but they are available if we can.
