Ink Transfer On $1? Feels Waxy... - Coin Community Forum

iamkayelem Valued Member United States 176 Posts	Posted 03/30/2011 4:39 pm I've been meaning to get this on here for a few weeks now. it looks like an ink transfer but the bill feels waxy. is this something someone did to the bill? I can't think of an reason why it would feel waxy besides someone trying to alter it. Report this Post to the Staff

zeewool Pillar of the Community 3660 Posts	Posted 03/31/2011 01:10 am My "guess" might be that this note has been previously soaked in vegetable oil or something similar, and the waxy texture may be a residual effect? It really does not appear to be an ink transfer to me as the effect seems to be the same on both sides..... totally unrelated, but check out this auction..... Nickelman Pillar of the Community United States 1397 Posts	Posted 03/31/2011 11:09 am If the note came in contact with something that is making it feel like that I would guess that what you are seeing isn't an ink transfer but rather it made the paper translucent and so you are seeing the other side through the paper. That would explain why the effect is seen on both sides of the note. But of course that is just a guess. Report this Post to the Staff

I don't know anything about photography but I thought maybe someone put it into that stuff they use in dark rooms to develop film, haha. Report this Post to the Staff

The only thing I was able to determine / understand was that it was environmental damage aka PVC currency sleeves.
