This is the sellers photo's and I was wondering what you all thought this thing would grade at. The seller is a very respected numismatist so I felt rather easy with dealing with him, but anyhow here's the pictures

I'm not conversant with FEs, but that one rates "Wow!" in my book. 2 gouges on the obverse field, and whatever that is around the N on the reverse, are all I see with it.

If that's just the barest hint of wear on the chest feathers, it's an extremely strong AU. If not, that coin has to be pushing MS65. Low leaves, open E, small letters, and I'm going out on a limb and calling it MS65. Almost a $3500 coin.

Now, tell me where I messed up.

Pictures are very deceptive I think more so on copper coins that Morgans,,

This coin has some telltale signs of very light abrasion on the breast and ribbon, but I cannot tell about the wing tip due to lighting conditions of the photo, I will have to assume that it is there .

This precludes the coin from MS rating which in hand it may very well be,, but the slight breaks in luster in the areas I noted are the high points of the coin and the first to show wear.

AU-58 based on the photo's.

is this coin raw ? if it is I would have to question why ?

Rick

Especially with Bryan's comments about price in his other thread, Rick, I'm inclined to agree the coin is barely AU. I would suspect he's getting it from a dealer who isn't afraid to work with raw coins.

They called that coin AU? Man, that's a barely-circulated as it gets. Great coin.

Hard to tell from the photos but I like the look. Min-AU Max MS65 I would say MS64. Nice coin!
