I am trying to find out what the term "DM" means. I think it's deep mirror, but I'm not sure. The reason I ask is I have seen and 1882 CC Morgan silver dollar, and I see in the PCGS guide different prices for the DM and PL designations (I know PL is proof like). I have seen the term DMPL which is deep mirror proof like, but if you separate them which is a higher grade of coin? The DM's seem to be worth much more in the higher grades. And how do you figure out if it's DM or PL?

Yes, DMPL = Deep Mirror Proof Like, so DM = Deep Miiror. DM and DMPL are the same.
I seen one yesterday slabbed by PCGS the was designated as PL that I would have thought it was DMPL. So how to tell, I have no idea.

PL and DMPL are just different measures of the reflectivity of the fields of Morgan dollars. The general measure is 2-4" of reflectivity for proof-like and 4-6" for deep mirror proof-like.

I would venture to guess that those standards, like the rest of grading, have tightened considerably in the last year or two.

You are so right, SuperDave. It's almost immpossible to make dmpl's the last year or so (I think PCGS is looking for a 6 inch minimum now). Many of the older pcgs slabbed dmpl's only get pl today.
When pcgs first started grading coins (the rattler holders), they didn't use the dmpl attribute......only pl. You can still find the odd deep mirror in these holders (labeled pl), but most have been cherry picked by now.
