Take a look at the observe. There appear to be two (2) upside down bays aligned in a southwest orientation. The first begins to the west of Lincoln's ear lobe and runs through the Y in LIBERTY. The second begins below Lincoln's chin and runs through the left lapel of his jacket.

I'm leaning more towards PMD becasue the Y in Liberty is nearly obliterated by the "bay." Additionally, there is a pic of the reverse, which seems to show an indentation, as if the someone pounded the obverse of the coin.

Please share your thoughts about what happened to this coin. Thanks!

I can't really tell from the pics. Maybe someone else can. I wouldn't write it off as PMD yet.

I wonder if it was struck through skis?

Full images of both sides would help. If it is PMD on the reverse both areas would be bent out. If it is a struck through error, then the reverse sould be normal.

I do see some damage on the reverse of the coin, which I tried to show in the second pic of the OP. Here are scans of the entire coin, obverse and reverse.

Great struck through! They're a lot more scarce on the Zinc cents. Cool coin, nice error.

Thanks everyone, but I'm not convinced that it is struck through because of the damage visible on the reverse. If it was a couple pieces of metal that were stronger than the zinc, it would be possible to cause damage to the reverse, in theory. I suppose it is more likely PMD. I don' know what to think.

Based on the first pic, I said struck through but seeing the second set, it appears totally different because of the type of lighting. I'm not going to say "definitely struck through". I don't know what it is.
