This coin has decent detail, but it looks like it was cleaned with some sort of abrasive cloth. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Definitely harshly cleaned. When you can see the lines going from the fields through into the main devices, the coin's been badly and harshly cleaned.

That's too bad, too. It has a lot of nice details!

Very harshly cleaned. But, if you can get it for a song, why not, it's still an attractive coin.

What would you recomend for a max price one would pay for this. BTW the back is in exactly the same condition as far as detail and cleaning.

Thanks

Well, the Red Book puts XF-40 (not seeing the rev, this might be a little conservative on the grading) at about $100 for this coin. So, my outlook is (assuming you collect Seated halves), if you can get it for $50 or less, it's probably a good deal despite the cleaning. If you think the rev justifies XF-45 details, maybe even a bit higher.

I'm not really an expert on these, just offering my input for what little it's worth.

I believe weifun gives sound objective advise but this type of decision is very individual in nature. Me, every time I looked at this coin I would be thinking

So I would have to pass on this one, even at half price.

I would still take it, but definitely at a cost less than premium. That cleaning takes its toll!

Ouch. With those lines, it looks like Wolverine got to this coin before you did!
Rest in Peace

I agree with upstate on this one... It doesn't help that I'm picky either... But to each his own
