At a coin show today in Countryside, Illinois, I asked at the office about displays, electrical outlets, tables, etc. From what they told me all tables are rented and they really don't care what you put on them. Electric is provided at each location and if a really crowded day, extension cords too will be available so all tables can have lighting. You must provide your own lamps though. As to only a display, not coins for sale. I was told they didn't care if you layed on the table all day, had a light over your face, as long as you paid for that space and table. I then asked a dealer I know well about some of the other shows in the area. He told me they are mostly run by the same people so what I was told for this one should be true of all of them. Yet it would always pay to ask at each location since in some places they may think differently.

Probably the best info you can ask for is right here http://www.money.org/Content/Naviga.../default.htmBe sure to open the links on how to prepare a winning exhibit. the link on display case size is pretty standard for all exhibits as most exhibit rules are spun off from the ANA regulations. My son is preparing for his secong go a exhibiting the end of July. Richard

I have never heard of a show that CHARGES for you to enter an exhibit before. Even the big ANA shows don't charge for exhibitors. Exhibits bring people into the show and they make money from your being there. Richard

Entrance to the shows and parking is free here for all shows regardless of what your selling, showing, displaying. No one makes money from someone just being there. For our area shows are based on table rentals for income for the place that has the show. Two of the shows in my area are in Hotels and they do make money on the restaurants from show sellers, displayers and naturally visitors. So far as I know at all the shows in this area they consist of sellers and/or displayers of coins and/or currency. In addition there are usully jewlery and/or other items for either sale or display. At the last coin show I was at I think the place made a fortune on the coffee they sold but not really sure it was coffee.

That is some very good information Ziggy, thanks. Our local coin dealer gave us a great deal on a display case and a capital coin holder, so I think the coin component of the display is pretty much set. My son wants to display a reverse somewhere, so we'll need to figure that out. I purchased his last remaining coin. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ht_971wt_905 if you are interested). The show is April 30th, so we have about 3 weeks to get things in order. I appreciate all the advice and suggestions.

Commercial shows don't normally have exhibits and they do charge for every table. Club sponsored show don't charge for exhibit areas. One reason for this is that most clubs are non-profit organizations and one of the things they need to do to keep their non-profit status is to provide education and the exhibits count as their education requirement.

I just wanted to follow up: We ended up displaying the coins in the display case and the capital coin holder. We made a tri-fold display that stood upright that contained the title of the display and the information my son wanted to share. He wrote short articles on what got him into collecting coins and what drew him to the Peace dollar and also what he learned about the Peace dollar from putting together his collection. He also had basic information like the sculptor, composition and mintages, etc. He won first place in the junior category, which came with a small trophy containing a silver American Eagle. The president of the ANA, Clifford Mishler, was there as well. He spent quite a bit of time talking to my son about collecting and gave him a silver coin with his likeness on it. Also, my son won a raffle for a 10th oz. gold American Eagle! After the judging, the person who judged the exhibits took us around and explained what he looked at when judging, so that my son (and I) could make an even better display in the future. All-in-all, it was a fantastic weekend. We bought some nice coins, visited with some great people and learned a lot. My son felt like he came home with a huge haul (which he did) and best of all, we had a lot of quality father/son time.
