Hi .Wonder if we have anyone who could give a date and mint on this detecting find in the UK. Gilded and holed by the Vikings for use as a pendant. The central obverse I have but the rest is beyond me.

Hi Enlil .Thanks for interest in this coin.Other side of it is worn and difficult as the gilging has been scuffed but here it is for what it`s worth. Cheers Graham

I can't help with the coin, but I must say that I'm quite envious of all the cool stuff you guys from across the pond manage to pull out of the ground.

It's not Umayyad, the style of the script is later than that - particularly the way the tails of the letters break down through the circular border. Unfortunately, the hole is drilled right through the mint name and the date area is damaged, but I think it's dated in the 290s (circa 900 AD). I think it's not too different from the Samanid coin identified in this thread.

Thanks Sap.Early tenth century would tie in with the Viking settlement of the area where it was found. It has now gone to the British Museum to work it`s way through our Treasure system and if any more information comes to light I will post an update. Thanks for everyones interest..

I have been looking and have to agree with Sap, the readable side and is similar to this coin. Also it looks like your coin has been clipped so a full reading of the text is impossible.
