Hey Everyone,
Haven't posted in awhile because of school and football. I'm wondering where I can get either a book or find a website that lists approximate values of error coins such as off strikes, off centers, clips, various Cuds and all the others .Any help is greatly appreciated.

Watch various ebay listings for various error coins and save the information . You will learn what coins are worth. The books seem outddated.

Error coins seem to find their price depending on many many factors.

If you pay attention it won't be long before you will know what coins are undervalued.

There are so many different types of errors....minor to major to one of-a-kind errors.

Very interesting field.

Have fun.

P S There are numerous books on the subect of errors to get you aquainted with the types of errors but their price info seems low.

One place I go when I want to look at error coin examples and current retail prices is:

I agree with Errorcoins about ebay. It is by far the best resource you can find on the web. If you have an account, you can search completed item listings of similar coins and see actual current market trends.

Otherwise, the latest Red Book always has that small appendix on errors. It gives you a price chart for various errors and misstrikes.

I've bought many coins from Fred, he is one of the Best.

Mike Byers is another http://www.byersnc.com/sitemap.html

There are about 6 other error coin dealers on ebay that I buy from fequently.

The top 2 sources (Fred and Mike) have some very outstanding coins at very outstanding prices. These coins are Not overpriced as they are one-of-a-kind errors that are extremely rare and have excellant "Eye Appeal"

There are a lot of very common off centers, broadstrikes, clips, die cracks, die gouges, that can be bought on ebay for under 10 bucks.

Common doublestrikes are cool and can be bought for around 20 bucks.

Watch, watch, watch, error listings and you will see price trends . The price of most errors keep going up and the major errors which don't really come out of the mint anymore are skyrocketing.

Good luck searching.

My Favorite Part about Collecting Error Coins is that I have many one-of-a-kind coins that no one else has so the population is 1. And Also on a very common coin like the Bison to have some speared ones with a population of less that 1000 well, very cool to have that variety. I have a type set of Bison Errors that has about 40 varieties, all different and unique, very cool.

Plus it is fun searching, possible profitable. Go down to the bank and buy brand new rolls at FACE value of any coin and search them with a lupe. If you do this enough times, YOU WILL FIND ERRORS on BU coins. If it's a nice error then ebay it and you have a profit.

Enjoy the search, btw for major errors (Errors bigger than the size of a normal coin) the way is ebay or an error dealer, you will never find one in circulation.

Here's an example of common off centers at an ok price:

http://cgi.ebay.com/EB045-Lot-of-5-...ts_W0QQitemZ170037668928QQihZ007QQcategoryZ524QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (note) his feedback is bad so this is not a good example of a good seller but the price point is about right)

Here's an example (THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION) of a FAKE ERROR COIN AUCTION.....Be vary wary of this type of fake error

http://cgi.ebay.com/1978-ERROR-MULE...ON_W0QQitemZ140039208934QQihZ004QQcategoryZ524QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

be carefull out there.....inform yourself on what you are buying.

Here's an example of a very nice error at a great price BUT...... it is Scratched

http://cgi.ebay.com/1964-Lincoln-Ce...ck_W0QQitemZ140040550462QQihZ004QQcategoryZ524QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This seems to be an honest seller with a problem coin. ebay gets a lot of problem coins.

good luck

Mike Byners is one of the greatest seller when it comes down to error coins. I admire his collection. The thing about error coins is not only do you have grading subjectivity, but depending on the type of serious errors, value can go up substantially higher. Also, this will depend on the type of coins you are looking for. For example, you wouldn't be able to find much error coins in gold. (possible but you will pay a lot more!)

gxseries... I only have 2 gold coins.....one a 2000 $50 Gold NGC Certified Struck Thru Reverse MS68 Mint Error (paid $20 over spot on ebay, unreal) and a 2006 $50 Gold Buffalo Proof (I got from the mint) with a rotated reverse of 7.5 degrees (Not Considered a Mint Error) but in my book...WOW a GOLD proof in the year 2006 with the mint standards, how did they let this very noticable rotation get out and How did They Know to Ship it to Me?

If a gold coin had a major error it would be very very expensive.

the search is half the fun

Errorcoins, yes I have heard it. I am not too sure what is the current statistics out there so it's difficult to know if there are actually a lot more.

I personally collect world error coins when I can, but usally more focused on Russian coins. World error coins depending on which countries can be generally more expensive but lower ends US error coins are fortunately very affordable. Try countries such as Japan, Korea, etc. Now that's going to be VERY difficult. I tried and found them to be a lot more difficult then I thought.

Your welcome lax.

Here is an example of a perfect error coin auction. I got a good deal on (3) doublestruck dimes with free shipping from one of the best error dealers on earth.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...160039442461

Here's an example of an error coin that I feel is neither over or underpriced. It fit into my collection so I bought it. A very nice coin.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WN:IT&ih=002

Sometimes I will pay more than what I feel an error coin is worth if it fits into my collection. Usally when I do this, one year later (being the error coin market and all) the coin has at least doubled in value.

There are also many other errors I bid on that I get outbidded on, that's the hard part.

Have Fun.
