Quote: Is anyone still buying at these prices? I am. Bought a $55 face 90% lot over the weekend for $1600. 29X face! There are 13 silver dollars in the group (supposed a couple MS Morgans too but I'm not counting on that) - still the most I've ever paid for silver alone.

Quote: Laughing...at the guy that told me I was nuts for buying all that silver at $14 an ounce...got to admit, I did quit buying when it hit $17...ah well - Maineman
Isn't that the way of it? We get used to a certain price level and then when silver or gold rise to the next level, we are still thinking in terms of the last level. I did the same with gold since 2001 and have watched it double, double again, and work on its 3rd double since then. Grrr...

Personally I sold the last of my junk silver late last week. While I was at the store, there was another customer there to buy thousands of dollars worth of .999 fine. So there are definitely still people buying, and buying big.

I'm buying and selling both. There are deals out there on things I want, and I can sell off some things I don't want at a great price too!

I'm really laughing today. Why? Back in the 1980's, I thought: "Once silver goes past $10 an ounce, I'll never find any silver coins in my change again." Here we are, 20+ years later, silver's hit $40 an ounce, and today I got a 1959 Dime in my change.

I haven't gotten a silver coin of any kind as change in so long that I have stopped looking for them. Guess I may have to rethink that attitude. Could be a little gem out there just waiting to fall into my hands too!

If the economy is going to the dump, the last thing I would be doing in investing in silver to combat that. Sholdnt you be investing in food and water the necessities to live.

I dont' think Canada will get hit as hard as the states. we'll have some hard times, but IMO the social structure should remain intact. Of course this is being optimistic.

Let's not get too alarmed here, we'll be OK in the long run. Remember all those folks that sold everything and moved out to the desert when Y2K approached (Hmmm, if they bought all gold back then, they might be better off than I thought!)

Any prudent person takes some precautions against the bigger adverse possibilities in life but some take it to extremes. Moderation in virtually everything is the key to success, IMHO. Because of that, I will have some PMs as a backup / financial insurance plan but will not be dumping all my stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. As to the economy, remember that it is not some giant monolithic thing that we are discussing here. It is a HUGE thing that is composed of a great many moving parts and pieces. Some of those parts and pieces are doing pretty well these days, so there is some good news in all this. Although parts are getting better, the over-all economy is not greatly improved but it is somewhat improved. The future looks better to me than the past 2 years, although not nearly as nice as the 2003-2007 era.
