hi I found this is a hole which had been dug up due to a burst pipe in my workplace, I actually thought it was a british pound coin at first. its about the same size,colour

only marks I can see is the VIII? I dont want to clean it too much

Hi Alex, the VIII that you quote could only be one of two Kings either HENRY VIII or EDWARD VIII , as far as what it is we need a little more information ie ... size for one and type of metal if possible.

hi its just over 2 cms, there a bit round the edge which looks gold but not sure

I must agree with that statement. The piece looks too old to have been made circa 1936. I think it would be awesome to have something that King Henry VIII may have had in his possession at one time. I hope you can find out more on this piece, I am very intrigued.

It looks more like a small scales weight to me, especially with what looks like to be small weight adjustment drill holes. Have a look closely. Do those holes appear to be lead filled?

I think it looks like a check token - something that was used to count people in and out of mines in the 1970's and back.
