Has all the characteristics of VAM 22. Except for the split in her bonnet. This is not a die crack or gouge. It looks like her bonnet just split open. Is this treated like a die clash and doesn't count?

There are those who will want to call it post-mint damage. In the absence of more information, I lean that way, but it's a tough call. I like how cleanly the piece of the dot was excised; if you can determine that there's no marking on the field in that immediate area from an impact which severed the dot, it would help to disprove post-mint damage.

Thing is, I can't think of anything during the minting process which would cause what you're picturing. Maybe a planchet defect which picked that time and place to fracture?

Got a magnifier on order. But if you look into the split with a 30x loupe it appears to be grayish inside with a granular texture.
