I'm finding myself doing this for a third time, asking the CCF which coin to choose Everyone's opinions have helped me choose my 1917 Ty 1 SLQ and my 1870 3C Nickel. So here is another one: 1832 Capped Bust Half Dime. Can't decide which one to keep, another question of high details with more dings, or lower details less problems. 1st: 2nd:

A little hard to tell from the photos, but the 2nd example seems a little less marked up. I wouldn't mind owning either.

The first one looks like road kill.
2nd.

So far it will be two against one, however I would go with coin number 1. I would rather see the detail that was originally imparted onto the coin, even if it is in the presence of some distracting 'problems'.

If it was a minor problem, I'd agree however the big 'X' is right in the first place my eye went. IMO - it's too distracting.

The 2nd - I agree that the marks are too distracting on the first

I like the first because of the hair.
Edit: And the reverse shield.

i would keep the first one it has a lot of detail on both sides of the coin... since everyones comparing the head look at the eagle too... #1 eagle > #2 eagle all day anyday

I would agree with #2, it has plenty of detail that wouldn't discourage the choice... The rim is what bothers me on #1

2nd coin is nice, the first looks as it's been run over several times and has too many issues.

From the pictures, I would definitely go with number 2. However, I think it's important to note that these are extremely tiny coins. The big issues the first one appears to have on the blown up 200X photos, may not be all that distracting in hand....so I'd need an in hand look to know for sure, and I'd probably go with the 1st.

There are a couple comments about reverse of the second one looking weird or fake. I checked against some other dates. It is different than most Capped Bust Half Dime reverse I looked at, but the same as the 1833 I have. Same doubling of the 'F' in OF, and same wear pattern on the shield. Is there anyone more familiar with these that can help us know if this is a die variety or not?

NUMBER 2 Looks the best, I would choose it.

If either one has die varieties I'd keep both. Otherwise #2.

#2 for sure... Too much going on with the first one, the rim really bothers me. While I agree with johnny on the fact it's a really tiny coin and may be difficult to see the scratches on the obv, the rim still bugs the heck outta me.
