I'm new to Canadian coins but I found this one in my baggie today and to me it looks like a pointed 5. Could it be?
Or not?

---headsIwin- Sorry, but just a version of the blunt 5.
---Pointed would be more pronounced of which none were reportedly made or any are known for 1975, to my knowledge, but doesn't hurt to look!
---It would be a keeper!

1965 and 1985 are the two years to look for pointed 5's

Nice photography. Why not try taking two photos, one of the "pointed 5, and one of a normal 5 and posting them together for comparison. The mint certainly seems to like playing some games with the 5. It would be nice to see them side by side. Thanks for noting.

Nybird, unfortunately I can't do that, not yet anyway, that's the only 1975 penny that I have. If I come across another one I'll will post.

commoncents13 and Imohtep: According to earlier posts here on CCF, there IS such a thing as a 1975 blunt/pointed 5 variety. I found the difference on the old posted photos very minor, though. In fact, I have never successfully identified a pointed versus blunt 5, despite looking at many nice 1975s under my loupe. I wonder if it's just from Die Deterioration, or if there was actually a different numeral used at the mint, like in 1985.

Copy and paste what you say. I don't know of that and I believe is just a difference in a die of many but not a pointed 5.

I don't understand. I think you're asking for a link to the old CCF topic. After a quick search, I found this, and it is indeed the post I was thinking of.

-bibd- Yes that is what I wanted. Thank You!

---First I will wish you a anniversary comment on the April 19th will be 3 years on this forum.

---I will also say that though would be nice to say your right, IMO I think it is the same as the 85 were there are a variety of blunt dies but the pointed was rather more pronounced!
---But I suppose I could be wrong as I was once way back in 1980 with my X were I thought she was the one!
---I laugh at my own jokes it keeps me amused and keeps it light.

I have heard rumors about the 1975 pointed and blunt 5's but that's the first blunt 5 I have ever seen in the pasted post from 2008 I'll be looking more closely at the 1975 from now on

I package these fives in as not significantly different. If you look at 65's in the P5/B5 variety, they are markedly different, not just in the point but the over all five itself and where it flares.

I agree, some fives are more pointed than others in all kinds of different years. But some fours are different in the same way in many different years and so on.

There are minor variances in numerals due to many, many factors, one of the easiest ways to see the variations is by making a high res, high contrast scan and aligning the images overtop of one another using the computer. You will see deviation on the ends of numerals from 1-9 degrees within the same year where no variety has been identified.

I have at least ten or twelve rolls of 75's here if someone wants to go through them.

Thanks for posting the found thread on these 75's. That's very interesting. So what's the outcome? And should I keep a blunted 5 if I find one and toss pointed?

commoncents13: Thanks for your 3-year-CCF wishes! I was also reminded browsing that thread that my posts about those members' 1975s were among my first!

Ugly: I agree with you completely. I'm afraid one has to draw the line somewhere, and I don't really consider this variety major enough to worry about. More accurately, I don't have the time or equipment required for these minor numeral varieties.

others: Despite my negativity above, I still encourage you to look into this more if you're interested. If some day I see good pics of a clearly blunt 5 I will change my tune!
