Question for Sander about his VOC coins (or Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie)--were those meant for circulation just in Dutch East Indies, or were they used in the Netherlands too?

Quote: Question for Sander about his VOC coins meant for circulation just in Dutch East Indies, as far as I know.. I'm just a year or 3 into numismatic.. therefore I enjoyed the Dutch "house-scene"... The 1785 coin from ancientcoinguy was ment for Dutch circulation.. (2 Stuiver West Friesland, (area where I'm raised and born & live now..))

Some very interesting coins and tokens. I can hardly believe that 1791 coin!

I said back on page 22 of this thread that 1785 is the earliest year in my solid date run of coins. But in searching for my 1785 coin, I found I did actually have a 1784; it was mistakenly entered in my database as 1755, which it clearly isn't since the obverse clearly reads LUDOV XVI (Louis XVI). So now my solid date run actually extends back to... 1782. Here, then is the reverse of my (re-)discovered 1784: France 1 sol, mintmark BB (Strasbourg). I know it's in poor condition, but the "84" of the date is just visible at the 12:30 position, just above the right half of the crown.
