If you read my other posts you know that I recently bought a group of coins from an estate. I bought all of these coins based on my opinion of grade & whether or not they had been cleaned. There are a couple of these that I think I might not have paid fair market value for. I'm not going to disclose what I paid, but if the forum opinion of grade/condition varies greatly from my own I'm going to contact the seller & make things right. I'm hoping I'll get some good opinions of grade, what problems you see & if the coin is impaired(cleaned, damaged, etc) what percentage of non-problem value would you have paid. My pics are not the best....if there's something I think the pics don't show I'll point it out.

I would say this one fits in at XF-40. Other than the Booker T. Washington and Columbian half, this is one of the most common of the early commemoratives, and fairly easy to find in higher grades...

Sorry ... you dark photos lack the focus and detail necessary to offer an informed opinion on grade.

The highest points of this coin design ... most subject to wear .. are the eagle breast on the reverse and the Generals on the obverse.

I see wear in those spots ... look at Gen Stonewall Jackson foot in the stirrup on the obverse ... I say this coin is maybe AU55 but truly unable to judge for sure with your photos.

I agree that these photos are dark, which makes it hard to grade with any accuracy. This is one of the few coins I was able to get a representative photo of. In hand the coin looks exactly like the picture. I graded this one as an ef-au with possibly an old cleaning.
