Just curious really. How OCD or anal is everyone n regards to their collection? I just sort mine by type and year, especially since I do not care about collecting each year AND mint. How about everyone else? Do you just throw it in a box? Do yo have to lable each coin with the year, MM, ect?

I don't want any change laying around so at the end of every day, I dump all my change in a large hole in my back yard. Temporarily it is covered with a wooded slab but in the future I plan on dumping a few yards of Concrete on top of those. For me your question is simple since I put all my coins in Albums. So whatever the manufacturer of my Albus says I must have, that is what I collect. This naturally includes Proofs, Uncirc, rare, errors and on and on and on.

well, I am really OCD about sorting pennies. I am going for a BU roll set right now and it is like all I ever do.

I don't think you are OCD if you put your coins in an album or in some sort of protective cover (i.e. 2x2). Now, talking to them and taking them out to dinner...that is a different story.
I think anyone who collects knows they need to take some care with them. But I could certainly be wrong. I put all of my coins in self-adhesive 2x2s with printed labels stating Country, Year, Denomination, Metal and KM#. I also keep an excel spreadsheet for each coin that includes other data such as where I got it and how much I paid amongst other descriptive notes

I fill some books and throw the others in boxes and jars.

I fill the albums and keep the rest in 2x2s, sorted by continent (or region), country, year, denomination, and finally mint mark. Does that label me as OCD? Probably. But hey, I'm having fun!

Anti-anal. I own so few, no sorting needed. I have often misplaced the box, but that's more of a sloppy attitude than a question of organization. LOL

I have albums, so that solves the problems for now.

A little bit of both. Stacks of coins all over the place and a neat little section in my closet and safe for my albums, other coins, and bullion.

When coin sorting, I look for errors and varieties, silver and choice gem BU and quickly put them in a 2x2 or plastic coin tubes, which later I will decide to put in a album or a coin wallet. I gently toss the remaining keeper coins in cups marked by decade. Starting 1940's, then 1950's 1960's 1970's 1980's 1990's 2000's 2010's. Then when the cup gets full, I pick out the really nice BU coins and try to make rolls by year and mint. The rolls then go into Brinks or whatever cardboard bank box I have, and then into my secret storage area. Works for me and doesn't take alot of space. OCD, maybe! I also have cups for beat up copper, and beat up zinc, wheaties, toners, foreign, and all beat up coins that go back into circulation.

Label any keeper with year and mm and put into album or binder. All doubles (extra) wheats etc... go into tubes and stored in a box. World coins label each keeper and store the same way. I try not to keep any doubles in those.

I bought about 10 old slide cases (the old holders for projector slides). They fit a 2x2 perfectly. I sort them by row .01, .05, .10, .25 etc....

Currently right now...I take penny rolls and when I find a coin I want to keep I put it in there depending on Date...like 1982, or 1982 D which is marked on the roll.
I don't find perfect pennies, but to me...its about the history, and the effort put forward.

I guess I'm a little weird when it comes to sorting coins. When I go through boxes I have containers marked from certain yrs. 1959-1980 I throw all the certain yrs in that container that I'm looking for certain die varieties. 1982-1983 since the die varieties that I'm looking for are pretty much the same except for the DDR. 1984 and 97 for the DDO. 1986 and 89 DDOs, 1988 and 88D DDO and RDV, 1994 DDR, 1995 and 2006 DDO, 1992,1996,1998-00 for CAMs and WAMs. Then I have a container for all the D and S mint that dont have DDOs or DDRs and look for RPMs. Then when I'm done with the box I go through the containers. The reason I do this is because I'm more excited to find certain die varieties than others. Yet I look at every coin for errors and die varieties.
