Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone has any information about the 40% Silver Bicentenial Proof and Uncirculated Sets. Does anyone have any Photos of these sets?

If so Please let me know

There are other types of packaging for the unc versions as well. The most common is white with a red Christmas scene on it. There is a different form of pliofilm also. One type has no white stripe on it.

But most incredibly is that there is another type of 40% unc coin. This separate type was run off on high speed presses at the last moment. The mint hads believed that 14 million was a production limit until late summer of 1976 when they suddenly came to believe the wording required them to make this number of coins. So they ran these off with second rate dies on high speed presses and then dumped them into 55 gallon drums. It appears that these drums were rolled about as well since these coins which are always packed in the pliofilm with no stripe are always marked up with little ticks covering them.

These wouldn't be very interesting since they are such low quality except that they've never been loved and almost all of them were melted in 1982. Even those which were sold by the mint suffered a lot in the big melts of 1980 because no one wanted the "bad" coins. They aren't often seen but are not really scarce.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
