Hi All,

I have this Ike that has something odd happening. I thought maybe PMD but after looking more closely I'm thinking otherwise. It may be obvious to many, but to me I could use some insights. Thanks in advance to all who chime in.

Carl

Looks to me like a die crack. Search the forums and you will find some other examples...

Carl;

Very nice!

Check to see if your coin is a 1971D Friendly Eagle Variety (FEV)
and maybe a DDO / DDR?

Here is the Ike Group Site for the info.

Okay...seriously. I look at it and wonder how anyone could think it's anything but a die crack.

Tell-tale signs of a die crack are a jagged raised line on the coin that tends to loosely follow ridge lines in the design and extends from weak point to weak point. They can grow with die use, and can eventually result in die breakage (pieces missing) to include Cuds (die piece missing from the edge of the die).

What you have is a very classic example of a die crack showing all the classic signs of such.

Mr. Daughtrey, you may be a qualified expert in coin matters, but not everyone has experience in errors, varieties and other interesting defects in coins. How can people learn if they can't ask a simple question here?

You seem to have quite a fan club on the site, but you come off being quite rude and pompous. The question was answered, quite politely, by others and there was really no reason you had to chime in and talk down at the post. You are actually the reason I don't post on this site more. You seem to need to point out how OBVIOUS things are when people ask legitimate questions. I find myself not asking questions here so as to not have you reply and make me feel like an idiot because I didn't know the answer.

The OP is my husband. He actually brought home the Ike for me because they are my thing. I did suspect it was a die crack, but I didn't post because I thought you wouldn't be able to resist replying. I really didn't want to be replied to with your condescending manner. So I took the picture and let him post it.

No, no, no.

Question asked and answered. Nothing more to do here.
