I have a really nice Proof 1958 set that I think would great as a whole and individually. Price worth it? Novelty or Nice,...or both? Thanks CCF!

Unless you have some DCAM's in the set it probably isn't worth sending it in.

I wouldn;t send it in. I think TPG should only be done on coins that have a High $ value or are faked (trade dolars)....JUST MY OPINION THOUGH :)

I buy 1957 through 64 Proof sets at spot from my local dealer. There are so many proof sets being brought in and broken up right now it is unreal. At a dollar under spot most sets are being sold for around 24 dollars. Now that might seem a tad low, but consider this; the people that are selling them are walking away with the money in hand. A quick look on the auction sites shows that we are being flooded with proof sets right now. IMHO the only way to really get "market value" or better is with a graded set. Assuming you get a great grade for the set as a whole. On the other hand I just purchased an NGC graded PR66,1960 Small Date set for $29. Yep, you guessed it, it was being sold for scrap. Along with an NGC graded PR65 1958 set; which I bought for $27.

The grading fees alone on which was at least $75, plus shipping and insurance each way. Call it $100 in fees for a set that later sold for $27.
