Here are two bills I have from my father's collection I inherited. I have no idea the grading or rarity of currency so some help and pointers are appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

Where are the pinholes?

What kind of value do they hold?

I think I see the pin holes, one at 10:00 off the G in Gold, and one at 2:00 off the Y in 20, right.

on closer examination these appear to be some kind of mark on the bill, but no light showing through when I hold them up to the light.

wow you have eagle eyes!

Do you suggest selling these on ebay, another suggested way, or holding them?

What kind of price range am I looking at?

I could not care less about pinholes, but many collectors find them to be intolerable... if the marks are present on the other side of the note, they may be filled holes.

Okay, say they are not holes..... I would venture guesses of $150 and $75 on ebay....... maybe half of that at a dealer.

From your father though....? I highly recommend keeping them because of that heritage alone (unless you've got a life and death emergency that $225 would fix).

When it comes to notes it's best to educate one's self in spotting some of these imperfections as the prices vary widely between grades.

A lot of collectors would prefer to buy a note that has NOT been tampered with / repaired etc.

Yet others will go and pay top dollar for a note which has been cleaned, repaired and pressed.

Did he not ask for a value? I'd say $130-$160 each if certified. amazing how hard it is now to locate nice $10 notes from 1928* Certified you just don't see that many in 64-66 grades!

Thanks all for the feedback. I would probably hold them for now. I am trying to see what items I am going to sell to improve the collection in buying up. I hate to sell the silver because of all of the predictions of increase, so I have started replacing some of the indian heads for now. I have a lot of wheats, but it is real work to go through and look for errors, grade, and figure out what I have. My dad had a retail market and put away a lot of coins before 1964. Then he had his father's so-so collection of Commerative halves.

If I remember my notes correctly, the reverse on this note is an amazing design of days gone by, Thanks for sharing......I believe the overall color on this reverse id orange, I have a very sweet bill with a rayon orange colored thread which is extending out of the top of the bill, very nice colors of threads used.......Not any more.

Hi Morgan's Dad,
I think you may be thinking of the Large size Gold Cert. they have the orange back, the small size has the standard green back.

Not really, I've only been at it for about two years but I do try an learn everything I can about US Paper Money.

Bought all of what I consider the important books on collecting US Paper Money and read them more than once, still have a lot to learn, that's why I'm here.

It seems that I learn something new every time Zee sends a post. The owners of CCF should pay her to answer questions as she has a way of explaining things that is beyond what is in the books.
