My experience would lead me to believe that collectors are usually willing to pay more than dealers (including coin sites). Collectors shop ebay and other auction sites. Just my 2 cents.

Either way will do. One thing you have to do before selling is to make sure of the current prices of the items you are about to sell. You also have to check the fees to be deducted after the sale etc... Goodluck on your first attempt in sales

A lot will depend on what you are looking to sell and how much time and effort you want to put into it. Selling on ebay is a lot of work (research, photographs, writing descriptions, answering buyer questions, shipping, etc.). If you decide to sell them on ebay, keep in mind that ebay and PayPal will take about a 10-12% cut when all is said and done. Depending on what you are selling, you'll also need the ability to take quality close-up photos to maximize the selling price and minimize buyer questions. However, if you are talking about selling rolls of junk silver bullion for example, then of course pictures are less important. If you take the coins to a dealer, they may not pay as much, but it's faster and not as much work as selling them on the internet. If you are talking about liquidating high end stuff, then a third option would be a major auction house such as Heritage or Stack's.

I have been seeing some people selling collectibles on Craigslist. The bad is you don't reach a large audience since it is more local listing, but the good is no selling fees and you can talk to the person face to face.

I would not recommend selling on Craig's List unless you know exactly what you have value wise and can meet a person in a safe public place. I would not recommend having a stranger come to my house or go to his home to conduct this type of business, there is too much risk of being robbed. If you opt to sell to a local coin dealer then you should test him/her to see how fair they are with a few coins that you know what their grade is and how much they would sell for. With that information you will be able to tell if the dealer is low balling you or not. He should pay no less than 20% under greysheet bid unless the coin has condition problems. My Two Cents worth. Quote: I would not recommend having a stranger come to my house or go to his home to conduct this type of business, I naturally will always meet someone in a public place when possible. With coin/currency it is always possible, with furniture... the house is probably better.

Be extra careful on ebay and PayPal, back in April 2006 I had a ebay Store selling error coins and each listing had my PayPal link included for quick payment... Long story short, both accounts had been hacked into and the hackers also changed my passwords where I couldn't access my accounts... My blood pressure was so darn high that my Daughter had to telephone both ebay & PayPal and explain what had happened... After freezing both accounts for thirty days and the B/S involved with my checking account, credit cards, etc., I decided after a nine year run on ebay it was time to call it quits when both companies REFUSED to provide me the INFORMATION needed (names, etc.) to file a Police Report and proceed with legal action against those ______... Both PayPal and ebay said that due to personal privacy laws they were not allowed to release such information (it's no wonder that crooks hang out their)...

I know the last word above should be spelled "there", but I believe they think it's "their" personal site to screw people...

I think if you check into it you will find that e bay owns PayPal, so they both have the same policy. Their bottom line seems to be make as much money as they can no matter who's right or wrong. The Bill Collector
