Alright. My dealer called me on Monday saying I should come in to examine this 50 oz beast. I stopped by during lunch and immediately fell in love as I really don't see 50 oz bars in this style from Engelhard. 100 oz bars I've seen plenty of.

We agreed on the price at that moment in time and I put down 50%. He was okay with me picking it up this morning (Friday) to pay off the rest of my tab as I was going out of town for work.

At that time he charged me $44.25 per oz on the Engelhard 50.

Side story, as I was leaving his shop morning I asked him to help me convert my last $47 bucks in my wallet into PM. I was expecting him to hand over another 1 oz JM or Engelhard but he handed me my very first silver maple leaf. He always knew I collected JM or E and that was really it. He said to hang onto this one and I certainly will. Now I understand why people collect Maple leafs, they are stunning to look at (and the purest).

Question to the forum: Is this particular style/pour hard to come across in the 50 oz form? I just thought it was a really interesting bar with character.

Thanks for any advice, comments or coin community thoughts.

Engelhard poured bars in 50oz form are not often seen. I have no idea how common they are but as you noted, 100oz is the normal large size with 10oz being the typical mid-size.

You got a heck of a deal on the price I might add. Now well under spot, when that bar will bring a premium over spot.

Thanks ayejay - he is the same dealer I bought a 20 oz from (and he remembered) so he gave me a slight discount this time around. He charged me just a tad over spot @ that time.

I have several of the old style Engelhard bars (or "loaves"), but I've never seen a 50oz. That's a great item to have. Thanks for posting the pics.

Those silver Maple Leaf coins are beauties! I still have to get one of those for my collection.

Well done, nice, and I like that leaf, makes me want to get one now!

I like the fact that you also converted even your last 47 bucks into an oz of silver, exactly what the Silverhawk would have done, lol....

Sorry for the Seinfeld "Jimmy" 3rd person refrence, just sounded right at the time....

Great acquisition, Tripncoins.

I just about fell over backwards when I saw the pic of this bar and read a number that looked a WHOLE LOT like 50,000! WOW!
