Poll Question
A new installment from me out of sheer boredom. Enjoy Would You Rather.... A.) Work for the Carson City Mint in the 1880's?or B.) Rush to Coloma, California in 1848?

If I had a detector, and I had access to an auriferous area, I would be looking for real gold nuggets.
Even it you don't, the latest postal numismatic auction I am currently perusing has REAL gold nuggets for sale:
1.9 gram ex Ballarat goldfield $90 - $100 2.8 gram ex Bendigo goldfield $130 - $160 3.1 gram ex Bendigo $160 - $170 3.7 gram ex Ballarat $170 - $200
51.4 gram tiny pieces of quartz adhering $2400 - $3000, estimated nett natural gold 1.61 ounces.
66.0 grams with tiny red deposits and minimal quartz $3000 - $4000. nett natural gold 64+ grams 2.06 ounces.
72.14 gram tiniest amounts of other minerals $3400 - $3800. compact shape, nett natural gold estimated 2.38 ounces.
Gold specimen in quartz, tiniest amounts of gold spread throughout specimen in about 30 locations. Total weight of specimen 63.27 grams nett weight of gold estimated around 10 grams. $500 - $750.
Australian dollars. USD prices 7% higher.
Pure gold bullion price total $9,280 auction reserve price total $9,890 Estimate total $12,180. The estimate total is nearly 25% higher than the pure gold bullion price.
Unassayed unrefined gold in natural nugget form as in specimens such as these, usually commands a higher price at auction than the pure gold bullion price.

Interesting so far. Not that many votes but it's close to a tie.

Personally, I like the thrill of the hunt, so the prospecting appeals to me a bit more.

I wouldn't pass up the chance to snag up some BU CC coins.

Neither. Poor washroom facilities, lack of medical care, lack of hospitals, lousy transportation, wouldn't be able to find gas for my cars, no coin shows, no Walmart so where would I buy anything.

C.C. Mint The gold hunt sounds like fun today but that was no picnic for the average joe back then. The weather, elements, living conditions (if you lived:) were pretty rough. Not everyone by any means became rich. At least at the mint you had a roof over your head and food. They may of even been paid with the dollars then.

Wow this is still a close one. I'm gonna have to think of something else just as interesting.

I chose the CC mint for the reasons given by Indian1.

This one is tough. I wouldn't want to do either because of the conditions but if I HAD to choose one it would be working at the mint.

I like Carson City and would have loved to live there in it's heyday. Working at teh mint would be fun, maybe get paid in freshly minted coin.
