All set to buy $32K in AGE bullion tomorrow. Any good reason to wait? I'm figuring it will be almost impossible to time a pullback unless it's real significant. I would have done it today, but I had to wait for a wire transfer and I timed it badly with Big Ben's meeting happing today. I should have done it a couple days earlier....blah!

Gold has gotten so high, your guess is as good as mine. But yea for the last few years it has been better to buy sooner rather than later.

I would take that 32k and buy in batches rather than all at once (you might catch a dip) - but best of luck in your AGE endeavours! :)

Wow, 32k eh. That breaks down to about 640 oz of silver if you figure silver at 50 an oz. Many of us still believe silver will hit 100 an oz before it is said an done, and perhaps even tie the 1980 peak, which would be right at 130 counting for inflation. Crazy to think, 130 bucks today, is the equivalent to 50 bucks in 1980. Fifty bucks went a long way in 1980 eh.... Lets say silver hits 130. If it does, you are talking about 83,000, which would be a profit of around 51 grand in say perhaps a year. Not bad, now there is obviously some major ifs in that scenario, but if they come to be, not bad for getting in this late. Best of luck either way.... I would have to consider gold as well with that much to invest, before pulling that trigger, as silver history shows much more volatility than gold perhaps, but the short term return on silver is just to hard to pass up. I know that is crazy to hear from the Studebaker of silver hoarding , but I am starting to think gold may be a better long term plan, than silver. I probably will just keep buying both, and hope we don't ever see that 1980 collapse, as if it did, and you got caught with the bag, it would be bad, real bad eh.... On a final note, my dad knew this wealthy fellow years back, and he passed from cancer not long after telling my dad...."I would trade it all for a cure, as I could replace the fortune in a couple of years with the formula I used to get rich the first time round, but I can't buy a new body." My point, nothing is more important than family and health in the end beyond any investment, and anything lost can be replaced, but not your health, as you only get one body eh, for now anyhow. So go for it I say, take a chance and let it ride....

Silverhawk...choice words. And thanks for your thoughts. I might consider taking a portion and buying into some silver, too. I'm so new to this PM stuff, I'll take any good advice I can get. The only thing I know for sure is I don't want to keep everything in dollars and watch that value drop on a weekly basis.
Thanks

I think like 95% of all us would agree right now, that turning those dollars into gold and silver, or just gold is a solid plan. Let us know what ever you do and post some pics if possible, as this is one stash I would love to see....
And yes, I recall now you were considering the Buffalo or the gold eagle, and I like the others suggest the 24K Buffalo 1st for the exact reasons the others pointed out. The durability is really not a factor for something that is so carefully handled and stored....

Percentage wise, Silver is gaining much quicker than gold right now.... On the other hand Gold has been more stable historically. Either way, US Dollars are in for a couple more rough months.

Ten years ago, there were people who had over $32K in Enron Stock. What do they have to show for it now? Your gold will always be worth something. It costs over $300/oz. just to get it out of the ground (average). If it was my $32K, I'd buy Silver, but I can't say your decision to buy Gold is "wrong". The reason why I've been saving silver since 1982 is because that's the year when my late grandfather told me silver would skyrocket in value "someday".

$32,000 will convert to roughly 20 ounces of gold, but it will get you around 600 ounces of silver. Silver has been known to easily gain $1 a day recently. So you could be looking at $600 daily gains if the trend continues, as opposed to $200 daily gains for a typical good day for gold. I suggest putting some theoretical quantities into an Excel spreadsheet and playing with the price of both gold and silver and figure out a split you like. Seeing it visually seems to help and you'll be more confortable with what kind of gains the spot prices will translate into.

Excellent comments guys. I really appreciate the help in thinking about this. I'm going to do some math and come up with a good "split" like westsea suggests. In any case, I'll post what the out come is in the next day or so. Thanks.

If I was brand new and wanted to split it up and stay simple, say items people buy in masses for example or sought after, say 16 grand worth of American silver eagles (300 or so if you can find them, APMEX has like 3300 left someone said earlier, lol), and 16 grand worth of gold Buffalo's, which at 1530 spot would break down to about 1600 per coin, say that is 10 1oz 24k Buffalo's.... So 10 1 oz gold coins and about 300 ASE's, that is a nice diversified mix of precious metals with a solid re-sale factor IMO....

tipncoins has the right approach. That buying technique is otherwise known as 'dollar cost averaging'. Monitor the charts closely as you go.

Lots of good advice here. I wish I had some big time dollars to invest like the OP, but for me it looks like I have to take it a little slower. But the advice and philosophies still apply! Best of luck, ctus!

Same here, no discretionary $$'s to spend at the moment. For those of you with the fortitude (or foresight!) to take the plunge, I hope you end up wealthy collectors!

Quote: I would take that 32k and buy in batches rather than all at once (you might catch a dip) - Tripincoins Excellent investing advice here. You never want to make a large investment all at once. The odds of buying right at a high are magnified, considering what gold and silver have done in the past year or two. Diversification is the ONLY free lunch in investing. You can use it to great advantage and increase your wealth over time. Buying different investments is one way to diversify but you can also diversify your costs by buying the same thing over a longer time frame. This is usually called Dollar Cost Averaging and it works well when selling too. Quote: Ten years ago, there were people who had over $32K in Enron Stock. What do they have to show for it now? - DNA
Well, those of us who actually knew a few things about investing did just fine with Enron stock. We knew what a "stop loss" order was. Quote:So 10 1 oz gold coins and about 300 ASE's, that is a nice diversified mix of precious metals with a solid re-sale factor IMO.... - Silverhawk Great advice here as well. I really like this split as to amounts and the fact that doing this makes it possible to gather some profits from both gold and silver. The sliver will likely produce the bulk of the profits here but the gold will add stability to the investment. Good combo, IMHO.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Much appreciated by a real novice like myself. I took a partial plunge this morning: 5 x 1 oz. AGE 100 x 1 oz. ASEI'm going to watch the prices and try to make another batch purchase if a good window shows itself in the next couple weeks. I must say, it feels good to finally get in. Now, should I did a hole and bury it in my back yard? :)
