Like the title says, I bought a WheresGeorge.com stamp. This will be fun! I only had three notes in my wallet, but I stamped and recorded them on the website. Previously, one of my notes was recorded after I had recorded it, which was exciting.
If anyone is interested, I bought mine on rubberstampchamp.com and paid $12.98. It is a self-inking stamp in red, but there are several styles, options, and colors to choose from.
I feel this is going to be addicting!

Those are fun. Used to be, when I got a "where's George" bill in circulation I would save them, in the hopes of someday going somewhere exotic, spending it, and having some odd locale recorded... then I realized I never go anywhere so I spent them. I kept the serials (somewhere) and maybe if I ever find them I'll see where they went after they left my hands.
Maybe ol' George was used to buy a tropical drink in Fiji after all...

I live in California and the furthest any of the bills I stamped traveled in the continental U. S. was Cambridge, MA. One was recorded in Honolulu, Hawaii and one even made it as far away as Hagatna, Guam. I don't stamp as many as I used to. One branch of The Bank of the West turns in any bill stamped with wheresgeorge as mutilated so they are taken out of circulation. I'm pretty sure some of the other banks do the same. I know a guy who hoards the stamped bills and does NOT record them on the web site, he has hundreds of dollars worth now. ANA LM-3175

iamkayelem - Not sure if your sad the notes are stamped or pulled for mutilation - see below
Fwiw -- One of the tellers who I know very well pulls the where is George, happy birthday type notes as and when he encounters them for mutilation. As per him Banks DO NOT have to accept any note that has graffiti on it. It's the banks discretion if they want to take it or not. Most tellers etc do not know this.
If the banks does not take / accept the note your only choice is to send it to the BEP for replacement.

I'm sad the notes are getting stamped. From what I gather most people who follow this Where's George trend aren't into the collecting aspect of currency and could likely ruin an otherwise collectable note. It's being defaced. It's like finger painting in bright pink on the Mona Lisa.

It's like finger painting in bright pink on the Mona Lisa. From my experience most of the georgers are very into the collecting aspect. There have been a few cases where some goof ball stamped a valuable bill, but for the most part they look at the serial number of every bill they pick up. As a matter of fact, many bills that would have a significant collector value because they are old or have a good serial number (like solid bills or very low bills) can not be entered on the website. Putting a stamp on a dollar bill is nothing like finger paiting on the Mona Lisa. It is like putting a penny in a penny smashing machine. Yes the bill/coin has lost all value to a collector, but there are so many of them (and more being made every day) that it doesn't matter. Actually the other choice is to spend the bill in a store. Quote: One branch of The Bank of the West turns in any bill stamped with wheresgeorge as mutilated so they are taken out of circulation. I'm pretty sure some of the other banks do the same. Keep in mind that when a bill is sent to the Fed in the mutliated pile, it does not always get shreded. The bills that are sent to the Fed are shreded if they are unfit to be reissued. A machine scans them to see if they are too dirty, too limp, torn, etc. A red stamp in a margin does not cause it to get shreded. A whole bunch of stamps on both sides, probably will, but if the bill can go into a vending machine, it probably will not get shreded.

I got a wheresgeorge bill in change today. Registered its current location. The initial/only entry was Oct 12, 2009 at Greensboro, NC. From the web site: Travel Time: 1 Yr, 201 Days, 15 Hrs, 49 Mins Distance: 280 miles Average speed: 0.49 miles per day I am heading to Alabama next weekend, and I plan to spend it there.

Autostamps are available for "free" several places. They get five bucks or so for shipping.

"Where's George" is much more about geography and current history than it is about collecting, and IMHO stamping a dollar bill is much less a hobby crime than is polishing your Wheat cent collection. I've never seen a valuable GW dollar bill ruined by a Where's George stamp. Come to think of it, I've never seen a valuable dollar bill in circulation, either. I say, stamp 'em!

I wouldn't put too much faith in it....I know plenty of people that enter places as far away as they can just to be funny...Alaska,Hawaii,overseas army bases, etc.

Karrlot,
I am going by what was said / conveyed to me. I have gotten (circulated notes) fed straps in sealed plastic FRB bags and after my search of the notes while returning it to the bank, notes have ripped / torn and jammed going through the bill counter.
So who knows what criteria they are using.
