What you are describing is not a US coin, it would be some sort of privately made token and more than likely not gold. Can you post pictures?
Rest in Peace

I have a JFK Gold type coin and original newspaper from when JFK visited Monessen Pa in 1961 This coin was given out at the campaign speech in Monessen at that time and my Grandmother gave me her house when she passed and I found it years ago in the attic. Trying to see what it may be worth. I have not found any other photos of coins that look like this one.

Yes I dont believe it is Gold because it is not shiny at all and it is not US Mint. This is a token he gave to people when he shook their hands my Grandmother said. I though that it may have value because of that. Sorry
