Picked up this beauty at a flea market this weekend for $3 under spot. It shows more luster than the pics show.

I will say AU-53 details, dipped. Carbon spots on reverse are a bit distracting but otherwise a decent coin good value for $3 under spot!

How do you tell if it was dipped? is it the flat surfaces? Like I said it shows significantly more luster in hand than the pics show. I'll try to take another one later in better light.

Uneven toning with some tarnish concentrated in and around the devices, to include some dark black spots and splotches, is usually a sign of an old dipping. What often occurs is someone finds a very dark coin in AU or MS, dunks it quickly in an acid dip, and ends up with a lighter coin that has some dark spots and inconsistent toning.
