Yep...sounds like a popular song..."another one bites the dust"

Shame he didn't provide anything to substantiate his claims.

sounds like a broadstrike

The problem with that is the OP said it was the same diameter and weight as a quarter, which would disqualify a broadstruck error. Of course, this is all pointless semantics as the OP has not checked in for over a month and more than likely never will again...

Sounds cool- but it may be a broadstrike, there is an example of the nickel one in the RedBook.

The imprints on 'heads and tails' are smaller than, and do not at all align with, with the quarter sized blank.
Under 10X the imprints appear to this 110% non-pro amateur to be deep, crisp, and clear.

Imprints? That makes it sound like they are incuse.

One side appears to be the left facing bust, the other is the 'Oceans in View' images of a 2005 commemorative nickel.

Left facing? The bust on the 2005 nickel faces right. Once again makes it sound like it is incuse. An incuse image would face left.

The bit about the images not lining up also makes it sound like a hammer job.

Sounds like a broadstruck nickel. The weight is close. Here is an example:
2005-Ocean-View-Nickel-Struck-On-Quarter
The outside diameter is probably enlarged to a quarter in size. He mentioned something about the direction slightly off. maybe a broadstruck slightly off center. He didn't mention any cladding, but a quarter planchet would never fit in a nickel collar. So hopefully he comes back in to see if the image I posts matches?
