Both of these are new acquisitions of mine and both are VAM-80's. One of these is graded by ANACS and in a yellow label holder. Both of these have PL fields (even though you can't really tell in the pictures) and the ANACS graded coin is labeled as PL

Stumped. Both coins look to have fields obverse/reverse which are virtually free of bag marks/dings. Cheeks on both ditto. The mystery is Anna's hair showing significant amounts of wear especially the 2nd coin. Given that they're both PL and assuming the lack of detail in the hair is due to the photos I'll give em MS64. I would suspect the breast would show quite a bit more detail if held in hand.

Does that VAM have anything to do with a double ear? I think I'm seeing that on both of those.

Anyway, how about AU-55 on the top, and EF-45 on the bottom? Both those surfaces look serene enough to go PL, too. Nice couple of ladies.

the hair detail is just how 1878 Morgans usually look. Even on some MS-64 coins they have this same feature. This is a VAM-80 MS-63PL graded by NGC (the picture is B&W) you can see the same detail around the hair above the ear

I will post the ANACS grade tomorrow

I was looking at the ear, itself. I can see, now, that's just how some of these were struck.

I would say MS-62 to MS-63 for the first coin and AU-55 details for the second.

The ear isn't doubled but the die has been so polished there is no detail inside the ear at all. Here is a close up of the VAM-80 ear

I would have to wonder about TPG grades now....with the pic's shown..
I see AU58 first coin, not MS..... AU53 second coin...I think they are very nice!! 1st coin... no noticible wear in the fields, but eh hair and cotton bowls, and the reverse, nice but wear marks all over the eagles outer feathers, AU58 the second coin...noticable wear in the hair, not just the ear, and the REV, the eagles talons and the lower wreath are worn...AU53...I from the pic's think they don't have =cartwheels due to PL features which would not have attributed cartwheel features.. let me know what they grade!Gene

Bryan that picture is clear as a whistle! It's that polished area in back of the ear that I was looking at and confusing for a doubling of the ear. Thanks!

well I didn't take any pictures of the slab (trying to figure out new camera) and I know I am a day late but the top one is a MS-62PL in a yellow ANACS holder and the bottom one is raw and looks really close to the MS-62 above. The only thing is they both look like my MS-63PL graded by NGC.

Gene, I have a MS-65 that has the same thing you are talking about in the hair. This is the VAM-85 Obverse (which is the same as the VAM-80 Obverse) and as you see it is the same and its graded MS-64DPL by NGC
